Appropriate technology

Any rural project designed, built and maintained using appropriate technology should be more labor intensive than high technologies, more efficient than traditional methods and should have the following characteristics.

1.       Simple robust and reliable
2.       Relatively, labor intensive with low capital cost and little import of foreign material and skill.
3.       Acceptance and support of local community with minimum change to the social fabric.
4.       Capable of orientation at local level with relatively simple training.
5.       Low cost, labor intensive, little import of foreign knowledge.
6.       Capable of operating at local level.

appreciating the importance of appropriate technology, Dr. EF says, " I know not better way of changing the system' than putting into the world a new types of technology,- technology by which small people can make themselves productive and relatively independent.
